5 1/2 Month Update

By: Shelsy

I'm a little behind on this month's update, but I'll let you know everything new that's happening up until now. First of all, she's getting huge. She weighed 17 pounds 8 ounces when we weighed her on the 2nd, but was still only 26 inches. She's just now starting to grow out of her 3-6 month clothes. She still fits in most of them, but a couple have been sent to the "retired" box, so I'm sure more will follow soon.

And, of course, she's rolling over now! The first time she rolled over was from her tummy to her back, but she didn't really mean to, and hasn't been able to roll over that way since. But she's mastered rolling the other way, from back to tummy. She was pretty much only going in one direction though (rolling to the left), but just today she rolled the other way! The problem is, she now rolls over almost immediately when we lay her down, and she'll play on her stomach for a few minutes, but then she freaks out when she realizes she's stuck there and can't move or flip back over. This is especially problematic when she's trying to fall asleep. She keeps waking up at night on her stomach and then needs me to flip her back over so she can go to sleep--assuming she doesn't just roll over again right away. Sheesh.

(This video was the 3rd time she rolled over, and look how quickly she did
it! Her first time probably took an hour. :-) She's even faster now!)

Speaking of sleep, she's not doing quite as much of it at night anymore. She suddenly needs to eat about every 3 hours or so all through the night. That's more than when she was first born! It hasn't been a huge problem for me, and I'm still getting plenty of sleep, it's just more interrupted than usual. I'm not sure if it's a growth spurt or teething or the rolling-over-but-can't-roll-back thing. Probably a combination.

She's also doing some super cute stuff right now. She's been playing with her tongue a lot lately. This video is the first time we noticed it and she was really going to town!

She also started scrunching her nose up when she smiles. She looks a little angry when she does it, but she's really happy. I also think she looks a lot like Andrew when she does it. :-)

And she FINALLY has started laughing! And not just the little grunt noise she was doing before. Unfortunately, she only does it occasionally, and I've had a hard time getting her excited enough to do it again. Hopefully we'll be able to get a video of it soon. I'll put it up when we do!

We also discovered that she enjoys chomping on celery sticks. She doesn't eat them, obviously, but she likes them cold out of the fridge and she'll suck and gnaw on them for quite awhile. They're also really easy for her to hold onto. But again, no pictures of that yet--I'll put some up soon though!
