Our Severe Weather Day

By: Shelsy

So, in follow up to yesterday's post, I have to admit that the weather is actually a little bit of a big deal. Today and tomorrow are supposed to see the lowest temperatures on record since the 50's. Still, I don't believe it calls for a Severe Weather Alert, and we were cracking up when one weather lady described it as "frigid and frosty."

Ryan and I went outside this morning around 8:30 or 9 and sat there in our hoodies drinking coffee and it was a bit chilly. I got really excited about it though, since autumn is my favorite season and I do miss a bit of the fall weather. So we took full advantage of it. I actually got to wear one of the many long sleeve maternity shirts I was given, and I even wore a sweater over it.

In the afternoon we went to the park. It was so beautiful. We hadn't been to this particular park yet and we really liked it. We walked around the lake about 4 times and I took a ton of pictures.

We got a couple of pumpkins that we'll probably carve tomorrow, in which case I might try roasting the seeds again. Tonight we're going to have some leftover chili and snuggle up to watch It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with caramel apples and popcorn.

It's the perfect fall day!

Severe Weather!

By: Shelsy

Well, moving into the fall and winter months certainly looks a lot different here in Florida than it did back in Pennsylvania. The weather's been in the 70's and 80's, bright and sunny... I even went swimming one day last week. But then I saw a weather alert pop up on my computer: Severe Weather Alert! I looked out the window and saw that it's sunny and beautiful, so I clicked on it to find out what could possibly be so severe that they would need to alert me about. This is what I saw:

RED FLAG WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MELBOURNE FL
243 PM EDT MON OCT 27 2008

...EARLY SEASON COLD FRONT WILL BRING LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES TO CENTRAL FLORIDA BEGINNING THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH MID WEEK...

The "cold front" it's talking about? 65 degrees tomorrow. It'll be back up to 76 by Thursday. I just love that two days of weather in the 60's warrants a "severe weather alert." Hilarious.

Baby Update!

By: Ryan

Just a quick update here for everyone. Shelsy had an ultrasound today and everything's going well. The baby is doing fine and looks healthy and happy. We also found out what we're having...anyone care to guess? :-)

It's a girl!

Yep, pretty exciting. And between her various aunts, grandmothers, and great grandmothers, the little kid very likely has a whole truckload of pink clothes and accessories already. :-) The updated due date is now April 3. Still seems like a long way off, but it'll go fast!

The Starbucks Couple

By: Ryan

First of all, I know, there's no picture. I still wish I'd been able to take a picture, but there just wasn't a chance to. Anyway...

Shelsy and I were in Starbucks yesterday and we saw an elderly couple that pretty much perfectly captured what the two of us will be like at that age. They were sitting in seperate chairs next to each other, about a foot and a half apart, each surfing the Internet on on their own laptop. He had a Mac, she had a Toshiba. I wasn't sure they were even together at first, but the way they were talking made that apparent after a few minutes.

So, yeah, don't you agree, that'll be Shelsy and me when we get to that age? Who knows what laptops will look like in 40 or 50 years, or what Starbucks will have become, but I can totally see us packing up our laptops-of-the-future and heading over to the local Starbucks-of-the-future for some coffee and some Internet.

As we were leaving, the elderly couple was also packing up their computers. She was wrapping up her power cable and he looked to be in the process of shutting down. Just as we walked past, I heard him ask her some question about the credit card. Her response?

"I already gave you the damn credit card this morning."

...yep, definitely a glimpse of the future Ryan and Shelsy. :-)
